100% Trebbiano di Lugana (aka, Turbiana) Our Lugana is produced from a native grape variety called Trebbiano di Lugana or Turbiana, which grows just south of Lake Garda. Recent research has revealed that Trebbiano di Lugana is not part of the Trebbiano family, but is rather a biotype of Italy’s celebrated Verdicchio. The Lugana climate is influenced by the breezes of Lake Garda (Italy’s largest lake) and is mild overall, with lower day-to-night temperatures, making it a ‘climatic paradise’ for the native grapes. The winery itself is named after the original farmhouse on the property, Cascina Maiolo, built by local notary Sebastiano Maiolo in 1710. The cartouche on the bottle commemorates the keystone on the door of this farmhouse. Dry, medium body and a gentle combination of smoothness and tartness, the Lugana shows attractive apple and pear aromas framed by citrus fruit with a refreshing finish. This wine is wonderful to sip on its own, but its medium weight and fresh acidity, make this an ideal pairing with shellfish and seafood dishes like creamy shrimp risotto with mascarpone.
