Owners Alfonso Undurraga Mackenna and his sons Alfonso, Max and Cristobal founded Koyle in 2006. They comprise a legacy of Chilean winemaking excellence that dates back to 1885 when their descendents founded the family’s eponymous winery, Undurraga. When the family sold Undurraga in 2006, it allowed Alfonso to pursue a lifelong dream – finding superior terroir from which to produce handcrafted, authentic, small production Chilean red wines. The biodynamically farmed 2,718 acre estate is located in the Los Lingues zone of Colchagua Valley, at the foothills of the Andes Mountains. Winemaker and viticulturalist Cristobal Undurraga Marimon worked for Chateau Latour and Franciscan Estates and seeks to produce wines that strike the right balance between European restraint and Chilean fruit. The winery was named after a beautiful, endangered, indigenous purple plant that the Chilean Indians called Koyle.
