Sourced from multiple vineyard locations in the Anderson Valley, this Pinot Noir is an assertive yet elegant wine, brimming with aromatics of black cherry skins and flavors of raspberry compote.
2017 was predominantly a cool vintage with a warmer than usual finish. This, however, did not affect the quality on the Pinot Noir, as much of harvest was completed before the heat wave. Grapes that remained on the vine throughout the heat spike were pushed slightly beyond our normal ripeness which gave the wines intense fruit character. Blending was important in 2017 to maintain balance and style, but some of the riper lots were fun to pepper in at the blending table.
Derived from the Deep End of Anderson Valley, which is the coolest end of the 18 mile long stretch, the fruit for this wine hails primarily from neighboring vineyards. These sites bear a preponderance of Dijon and California heritage clones. Altitude and proximity to the ocean, combined with a high concentration of sandstone, provide optimal growing conditions for Pinot Noir.
